In this slideshow presentation, Jan Chipchase introduces the Nokia Open Studios design research method for engaging shantytown communities in the mobile design process. The slides focus on how Nokia is “providing an alternative way for people to articulate their wants and needs - within the context of their community” rather than the direct design output of the initiative. However, if you want to see some of their results, BusinessWeek is currently featuring some renderings of truly inventive ‘dream phones’ by participants from Mumbai to Rio de Janeiro.
